Making Privacy Paramount: The Steps Behind EA’s Security Certification Success
As a non-profit, data are something we protect, not something we own. Since Education Analytics’ inception, we have been committed to using the most up-to-date and advanced technology and industry practices to ensure the continued security of the data entrusted to us by our partners, including school districts and states. To put our philosophies around data security and privacy into practice, we have pursued three certifications as an organization that highlight our commitment towards leading the K-12 education industry when it comes to data security and privacy. In this blog, we highlight those three certifications – SOC2, TX-RAMP, and IS0 27001.
Three Ways to Safeguard School Data: Best Practices and Insights
At Education Analytics, privacy isn’t just a policy—it’s a priority.
Levels of data security certification: EA's SOC2 journey
This year, EA went through the process of becoming certified in SOC2, which verifies that Education Analytics securely manages our partners’ data to protect student privacy and ensure confidentiality. In this blog, we describe the importance of SOC2 compliance in our work, summarize the steps we took during the SOC2 auditing process, and highlight what’s next for EA when it comes to embracing data security best practices.
Data neighborhoods: Preserving context around educational data
In this blog, we establish core principles for conceptualizing data interoperability as transport, including how decentralized governance models enable local control over data in ways that maximize privacy and security. We introduce the concept of "data neighborhoods" as a metaphor for this interoperability model, and we connect different kinds of context around educational data to the core principles.
Why data security is fundamental to EA's mission
When companies work with data of any kind, data security is immensely important. When those data consist of individual student data, data security takes on a heightened level of importance. This blog summarizes EA’s fundamental beliefs about data security and privacy, plus what tools and strategies we use to adhere to those beliefs day in and day out.
